WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene)

WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene)
“Clean water and hygiene are not luxuries — they are lifelines.”
Wonder Afrika’s WASH Program exists to protect the health and dignity of the most vulnerable by ensuring access to safe water, improved sanitation, and life-saving hygiene education. Grounded in our Christian mission to care for the least of these, we believe every child and community deserves to live in a clean, disease-free environment.
Why WASH Matters in Uganda
Only 19% of rural households in Uganda have access to basic sanitation facilities
Diarrheal diseases (linked to poor WASH) are a leading cause of death among children under 5
Over 60% of primary schools in Uganda lack functional handwashing stations
Girls frequently miss school during menstruation due to lack of water and private facilities
What We Do
1. Clean Water Access
Install protected spring wells and rainwater harvesting systems
Equip schools and community centers with safe, nearby water sources
Provide purification tablets and training on safe water storage
2. Sanitation Infrastructure
Build ventilated improved pit latrines at schools, health posts, and homes
Design gender-separated facilities with menstrual hygiene provisions
Train families and children in latrine use and maintenance
3. Hygiene Education
Conduct school-based campaigns promoting handwashing with soap
Educate on personal hygiene, food hygiene, and disease prevention
Distribute handwashing kits to families and children
4. Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM)
Provide reusable sanitary pads and hygiene kits to adolescent girls
Offer dignity education workshops to empower girls and reduce school dropout
Engage local women’s groups in pad-making as a sustainability tool
Faith + Health = Hope
We consider WASH a spiritual act of love. Jesus ministered to both body and soul — and so do we. Every new well, every soap kit, every clean toilet is a testimony of care and dignity in Jesus' name.
